Conference on Global Health Innovations with Bochum Delegation: Insights and Collaborations

The “Conference on Global Health Innovations” was held on April 24, 2025, at the University of Tsukuba’s Tokyo Campus, with participation exceeding 60 attendees. The event was organized during a visit by a delegation from Bochum, which included representatives from the City of Bochum and Ruhr University Bochum. The conference aimed to examine innovative healthcare ecosystems in both Germany and Japan.

Collaboration Among Institutions

This event was facilitated through collaboration among several institutions committed to fostering academic and industrial exchanges between Japan and Germany. Key participants included the University of Tsukuba, Ruhr University Bochum, the City of Bochum, the German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo), and NRW.Global Business, the economic development agency for North Rhine-Westphalia.

Keynote Addresses and Contributions

Keynote addresses were delivered by Professor Dr. Yoshiyuki Sankai, Executive Research Director at the Center for Cybernics Research, and Professor Dr. Hiroyuki Nishiyama, Project Leader of the Tsukuba Digital-Bio International Center. The gathering also featured contributions from Professor Dr. Hidenori Takahashi and Associate Professor Aiki Marushima from the Institute of Medicine, as well as Associate Professor Daichi Sugawara from the Institute of Human Sciences, who participated in a poster session. Additionally, Professor Dr. Nanako Tamiya from the Institute of Medicine took part in a panel discussion, emphasizing the university’s initiatives in smart health technologies.

Bochum’s Role in Medical Technology

Bochum is recognized as one of Europe’s leading hubs for medical technology, hosting numerous healthcare-related startups. Bochum’s commitment to maintaining collaborative relationships with the University of Tsukuba in the smart health sector was a notable focus of the conference.
