Xi’an Jiaotong University Strengthens Educational Ties in Morocco: A Delegation’s Collaborative Mission

A delegation from Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), led by Vice President Professor Shan Zhiwei, visited Morocco from January 9 to 13, 2025, to explore potential collaborative opportunities in education. The delegation’s schedule included meetings with several educational institutions, such as Mohammed V University, the International University of Rabat, and IBN GHAZI Preparatory School, as well as discussions with local Chinese enterprises.

Meetings with the Chinese Ambassador

During the visit, the delegation met with Mr. Li Changlin, the Chinese Ambassador to Morocco. Professor Shan Zhiwei provided an overview of XJTU’s history and its initiatives aimed at attaining world-class university status, particularly highlighting efforts to develop international talent through English-medium undergraduate programs. Ambassador Li recognized XJTU’s initiatives to promote opportunities for Moroccan students to study in China.

Visit to Mohammed V University

On January 10, the delegation visited Mohammed V University, where they engaged in discussions with Vice President Professor Ismail Kassou and Professor Khalid Baalou. These discussions focused on enhancing student exchanges and academic cooperation, with the XJTU delegation emphasizing the university’s academic strengths and the need for improved communication to attract more Moroccan students.

The delegation also toured the National Institute of Advanced Computer Science and Systems Analysis at Mohammed V University, where interactions with students revealed significant interest in study opportunities in China.

Engagement with the International University of Rabat

The same day, at the International University of Rabat, the delegation discussed establishing a diversified exchange platform for students, aimed at fostering collaboration across research, academia, and industry sectors.

Collaboration with IBN GHAZI Preparatory School

On January 11, discussions took place with the headmaster of IBN GHAZI Preparatory School regarding the alignment of Moroccan preparatory education with Chinese engineering programs. This meeting culminated in a signing ceremony for memorandums of understanding with five local high schools, marking the beginning of formal partnerships.

University-Enterprise Cooperation Discussions

Additionally, on January 12, the delegation met with representatives from Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co. Ltd. to discuss university-enterprise cooperation, emphasizing the importance of training that aligns with industry needs. Officials from multiple schools within XJTU accompanied the delegation during the visit, highlighting the university’s ongoing commitment to international educational collaboration.
