Hokkaido University Hosts Lecture by Ukrainian Ambassador Dr. Sergiy Korsunsky on Future Cooperation with Japan

Hokkaido University recently hosted a lecture by H.E. Dr. Sergiy Korsunsky, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan. The event, held on October 22 at the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center, was titled “Cooperation for Future Eurasia: Dialogue between Ukraine and Japan” and drew an audience of approximately 60 individuals, including faculty members, staff, and students.

Lecture Overview

The lecture was introduced by Professor Akihiro Iwashita and was conducted in a dialogue format as per the Ambassador’s preference. Key topics covered included the current situation in Ukraine, expressions of gratitude for Japan’s support, and Ukraine’s relationships with various nations and regions, including the European Union, countries in the ‘Global South’, and East Asian nations.

Question and Answer Session

During the question-and-answer segment, Dr. Korsunsky addressed inquiries regarding the feasibility of a peace agreement similar to the Dayton Agreement, as well as Ukraine’s diplomatic relations with Latin American countries.

Meeting with University Officials

Following the lecture, the Ambassador met with Hokkaido University President Kiyohiro Houkin and Executive Vice President Aya Takahashi to discuss potential avenues for cooperation between Ukraine and Japan.
