University of Tehran Researcher Commended for Advancing Iran–Russia Literary Cooperation

Janolah Karimi Motahhar, Professor of Russian Language and Literature and Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tehran, has been recognized for his longstanding contributions to Russian literary studies, comparative literature, and Iran–Russia cultural relations.

Over a distinguished academic career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Karimi Motahhar has played a pivotal role in strengthening the study and teaching of Russian literature in Iran. His research has explored the literary and cultural connections between Iran and Russia, highlighting the influence of Persian literature, philosophy, and cultural traditions on Russian writers and intellectual thought.

Among his notable works are studies examining Eastern influences in Russian literature, including analyses of Alexander Pushkin and Nikolay Gumilyov, as well as comparative research on the impact of Persian poets Sa’di and Hafez on Russian literary traditions. He has also authored key academic textbooks and translated numerous Russian literary classics and critical studies into Persian, expanding access to Russian literature for Iranian readers and students.

As an academic leader, Dr. Karimi Motahhar has promoted interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, and the development of comparative literary scholarship. His work continues to strengthen academic ties between Iran and Russia while fostering greater cultural understanding through literature, translation, and scholarly exchange.
