Uzbekistan Joins ADB’s $70 Billion Regional Initiative for Sustainable Development
At the Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting in Samarkand, new regional initiatives focusing on energy development and digital infrastructure were officially unveiled.

At the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting held in Samarkand, a series of major regional initiatives were announced, focusing on strengthening energy systems and advancing digital infrastructure across participating countries. Uzbekistan was highlighted as a key partner in these long-term development efforts, reflecting its growing role in regional economic integration.
The initiatives are designed to enhance energy connectivity and improve digital access across borders, while also supporting broader development priorities such as private sector growth, social protection systems, and human capital development. By aligning infrastructure expansion with economic reform, the programs aim to create more resilient and inclusive growth pathways for the region.
Key components of the initiatives include the integration of national energy systems to improve efficiency and reliability, the expansion of cross-border electricity trade, and the development of digital corridors to facilitate faster and more secure data exchange. In addition, efforts will be made to improve internet accessibility, particularly in underserved areas, to support digital inclusion and innovation.
The total value of the regional programs is estimated at approximately $70 billion through 2035. This long-term investment framework is expected to strengthen regional cooperation, improve infrastructure connectivity, and support sustainable economic transformation across Central Asia and beyond.
