Celebrating 50th Earth Day, CJCU Opens International Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Eco-Center

The International Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Eco-Center at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) has been officially opened on April 18, 2020, a date which coincides with the 50th anniversary of World Earth Day. The Eco-center is built using recycled materials and follows the spirit of environmental sustainability as articulated by Dr. Jane Goodall.

In the opening ceremony, CJCU President, Dr. Yung-Lung Lee, and the CEO of the Jane Goodall Institute, Ms Shiue-Jen Guo, planted a sapling together as a symbol of growth and hope. Dr. Jane Goodall is the Honorary Dean of the International College of Practice and Education for the Environment at CJCU.

The International Program for Sustainable Development has been setup as a bachelor degree program and is dedicated to admitting international students.

To celebrate the World Earth Day this year, CJCU especially invited a local Taiwanese artist, Mr. Yuan-Hung Luo, to teach the students using recycled resources and integrating the unique weaving skills of students’ home countries to create a work that is full of exotic cultural characteristics.

Other than putting Dr. Jane Goodall’s environmental sustainability into practice, CJCU has also founded the Yunus Social Business Center to promote Dr. Yunus’ concept of social enterprise.

Besides this, the idea of social innovation has been integrated into the professional courses of the International BBA Program in International Business. The International BBA Program is aiming to train students to become the talents for international enterprises with social innovation and sustainable development thinking.
