This MoU is a legal standing to enhance cooperation between UTM and UM since both parties have been actively involved in student and staff exchange activities since 2016 after the Letter of Cooperation (LoC) between both universities signed in 2016.

Universitas Negeri Malang has been a significant supporter of a  bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia in higher education under the Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium (IMRC) platform.

The two sides have agreed to enhance cooperation in research and education besides  strengthening communication between the two universities to exchange expertise and experiences in the administrative fields.
