Nazarbayev University and Pakistan Explore New Opportunities for Higher Education Collaboration
Nazarbayev University (NU) welcomed a Pakistani delegation led by Ms. Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, on July 21 for discussions focused on expanding cooperation in higher education, research, and academic mobility.
During the visit, NU Provost Rehan Sadiq highlighted the university’s commitment to building strong international partnerships and enhancing opportunities for students from around the world. He noted Pakistan’s growing presence within the NU community, with Pakistani nationals currently forming the second-largest group of international students at the university. At present, 55 Pakistani students are pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes at NU.
NU Vice President Assel Uvaliyeva introduced the university’s academic opportunities for international students and highlighted recent initiatives to improve access to quality education. She shared that NU has introduced partial scholarships for international students for the first time, offering potential funding support ranging from 15% to 50% of tuition fees through various co-funding models.
The meeting concluded with Minister Wajiha Qamar proposing the establishment of a joint working group between Pakistan and Nazarbayev University. The group will focus on strengthening collaboration in higher education, promoting student and academic mobility, and developing joint research initiatives.
The engagement reflects a shared commitment to fostering global academic partnerships and expanding educational cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
