CUT Hosts Historic 2026 USSA Netball Championships in Bloemfontein

The Central University of Technology (CUT), Bloemfontein Campus, has made history by hosting the 2026 University Sport South Africa (USSA) Netball Championships from 29 June to 3 July 2026, becoming the first University of Technology to stage one of the country’s premier university netball tournaments.
The event brought together more than 900 participants, including student-athletes, coaches, and officials from 26 South African universities, three private institutions, and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). A total of 54 men’s and women’s teams competed over five days of high-intensity matches, transforming the CUT campus into a national hub for university netball.
The official opening ceremony highlighted themes of excellence, unity, and sportsmanship. USSA President Mr Jerry Laka urged athletes to compete with integrity and passion, emphasizing that true champions are defined by character both on and off the court. The ceremony was also attended by Netball South Africa President Ms Mami Diale and representatives from the Mangaung Metro Netball Association.
The tournament underscores USSA’s commitment to developing university sport while providing a competitive platform for emerging talent. CUT’s successful hosting of the championship marks a significant milestone in its sporting legacy and reinforces its dedication to student development and sporting excellence at national level.
