Khalifa University and Magaldi Power Join Forces to Develop Advanced Energy Storage Solutions

Khalifa University’s Advanced Power and Energy Center (APEC) has signed a consultancy agreement with Magaldi Power S.p.A. to explore the deployment of advanced Green Thermal Energy Storage and Power-to-Heat technologies across the UAE and wider GCC region.
Under the agreement, APEC will lead a comprehensive feasibility study assessing how Magaldi’s proprietary thermal energy storage solutions can be integrated into industrial and utility sectors. The research will focus on applications such as decarbonizing steel and aluminum production, enabling brine recovery and magnesium extraction from saline resources, and supporting grid services and co-generation systems for national utilities.
The collaboration positions Khalifa University as a strategic research partner in Magaldi’s expansion into the Gulf, combining academic expertise with industrial innovation to support the UAE’s clean energy transition. Thermal energy storage technology allows excess heat to be captured, stored, and dispatched on demand, improving grid stability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, particularly in renewable-heavy systems.
University and industry leaders emphasized that the partnership aligns with the UAE’s sustainability goals and supports scalable decarbonization pathways for energy-intensive industries. The joint initiative brings together researchers and engineers from both institutions to evaluate real-world deployment models, ensuring scientific rigor and practical applicability.
The study is expected to contribute significantly to advancing flexible, low-carbon energy systems and strengthening the UAE’s position as a regional leader in clean energy innovation.
