HOKMA College of General Education’s Welcome Ceremony for Global Scholars Program Students

The HOKMA College of General Education at Ewha Womans University held a welcome ceremony for the Global Scholars Program students on September 17, 2025, at Lee San-bong Hall in the ECC building. This event welcomed 254 international freshmen from more than 20 countries, aiming to assist their adaptation to campus life and foster cultural exchange.
Global Scholars Program Overview
The Global Scholars Program will include international students from all departments, with the exception of those in the Division of International Studies and the College of Nursing, for a duration of one year starting this semester. Participants will engage in courses focused on essential liberal arts and the Korean language to support their transition into their respective majors.
Welcome Ceremony Highlights
The ceremony featured an address from Dr. Haiyoung Lee, Dean of HOKMA College. In her welcome speech, she acknowledged the students’ bravery in pursuing their educational journeys in a new environment. Dr. Lee highlighted the university’s 139-year legacy of empowering young women and encouraged students to embrace diversity, forge friendships, and engage in collaborative learning at Ewha.
Activities and Student Engagement
The event included a presentation by EWHAROSA, the official student ambassadors, who introduced various aspects of university life. Performances by ACTION, the university’s street dance club, added to the festivities. Additionally, students participated in recreational activities and a quiz competition designed to promote interaction among peers. Zhan Hang, a participant from China, described her decision to attend Ewha, citing the university’s strong community and welcoming atmosphere as significant factors. She expressed satisfaction with forming new friendships and enjoying the performances.
Ewha’s Commitment to International Students
Ewha Womans University annually welcomes over 500 international undergraduates from diverse countries, providing numerous opportunities for global exchange. The university plans to expand its international student enrollment and enhance support systems to improve academic and campus life experiences. Through these efforts, Ewha aims to foster an inclusive and globally-aware learning environment, reinforcing its status as a prominent global institution.
