UTB Robotics Coding Conquest: Inspiring Future Innovators with AI Technology

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) conducted the 6th annual Robotic Coding Conquest (RCC) on June 9, 2025, coinciding with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2025. The event featured the Microsoft ASEAN AI for Accessibility Hackathon, hosted in Lecture Theatre 4 at UTB.

Event Overview

The event brought together pre-university students who showcased projects aimed at solving real-world accessibility challenges through the application of artificial intelligence technologies. The initiative sought to promote inclusivity via innovation. The hackathon was organized in partnership with Microsoft Brunei as part of the RCC events.

Opening Remarks

The day commenced with opening remarks from Pg Muhammad Nazri bin Pg Haji Ahmad, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AiML) Laboratory at UTB, who underscored the significance of cultivating innovative thought among young minds. He recognized the creativity and technical proficiency exhibited by participating students.

Student Presentations

Seven teams presented their AI-based solutions, which were assessed by a panel of judges comprising industry professionals and academic representatives. The projects included AI communication tools and intelligent mobility solutions, demonstrating technical skill and a focus on societal contributions.

Collaboration and Workshops

This event aligns with UTB’s broader objective to enhance Brunei’s innovation landscape. In collaboration with industry partners, including Microsoft Brunei, Shell Deepwater Borneo BV, and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, UTB plans to conduct workshops throughout June to provide students with practical insights into artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Future Competitions

These workshops will pave the way for additional competitions, such as the Building Intelligent Machines and the AI and IoT for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Hackathon 2025, which will offer participants the chance to engage with advanced technologies that influence the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
