Chulalongkorn University Appoints Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat as New President
On December 3, 2024, Chulalongkorn University hosted a Presidential Appointment Ceremony for Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, who has been appointed as the new president of the university. He succeeds Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn, whose term ended on June 30, 2024.
Ceremony Details
The ceremony took place in Room 111 of the Maha Chulalongkorn Building, presided over by Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, the Chairman of the University Council. Attendees included council members, university officials, deans, heads of institutes and colleges, and representatives from the Student Union.
Formal Proceedings
The event began with a formal procession, during which student representatives placed the university’s emblem, the Phra Kiao, on a pedestal on stage. Professor Dr. Kanaphon Chanhom, the Secretary of the University Council, presented the Royal Proclamation from the Prime Minister’s Office on a ceremonial tray. Both the outgoing and incoming presidents offered flowers in homage to King Chulalongkorn, King Vajiravudh, and King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.
Presentation of the Presidency
Following the formal presentation of the Royal Proclamation, Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai presented the document to Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat. Professor Dr. Bundhit Eua-arporn then ceremonially returned the presidential chain of office to Professor Dr. Surakiart, who subsequently presented it to Dr. Puriwat.
Closing Remarks
Professor Dr. Surakiart offered congratulations on behalf of the university community, and Dr. Puriwat delivered an address. The ceremony concluded with attendees singing the university’s anthem, “Maha Chulalongkorn.”
