Driving Sustainable Development Through Digital Innovation: A Cross-Institute UNU Training Initiative

In early 2026, the United Nations University launched the Programme on Digital Technology and Sustainable Development (UNU-DTSD), bringing together 17 young scholars for an intensive, cross-institute learning experience. Hosted by UNU Macau, UNU-MERIT, and UNU-EHS, the programme explored how digitalisation and AI can accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants began in Macau, studying digital innovation, before moving to Maastricht to examine policy applications, and concluding in Bonn with a focus on sustainability and climate resilience.

The programme also included visits to the European Space Agency and the UN Campus in Bonn, offering real-world insights. By integrating technology, policy, and environmental perspectives, UNU-DTSD provided a global, interdisciplinary platform preparing participants to address complex sustainability challenges.
