Malaysia’s University Delegation Visits Xi’an Jiaotong University for Academic Collaboration

A delegation from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Malaysia visited Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) on May 21, 2025, to discuss potential collaborations in student-faculty exchanges and industry-university-research partnerships.
Insights from XJTU
Shan Wenhua, the assistant president of XJTU, provided insights into the university’s recent initiatives, particularly the formation of the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR). He underscored XJTU’s dedication to merging education, technology, and talent development through projects such as iHarbour, which aims to enhance collaboration between the education sector and industry.
UTAR’s Developments and Plans
Ewe Hong Tat, president of UTAR, addressed XJTU’s proactive efforts to align educational frameworks with industrial needs and shared updates on UTAR’s developments and prospective plans. Since the signing of a cooperation agreement in 2022, both institutions have experienced significant advancements in international scientific collaborations, particularly under the “Belt and Road” initiative, and have engaged in various cultural exchange programs.
Joint Efforts and Future Cooperation
The discussions covered possible joint efforts, including organizing student summer camps, creating English-taught courses for international students, and advancing collaborative research initiatives within the UASR framework. Ewe conveyed a positive outlook regarding the ongoing bilateral cooperation, intending to utilize the networks provided by UASR and the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology to enhance international exchanges among member institutions.
