Tech Ideation Challenge 2024: Driving Innovation at INTI International College Penang

The Tech Ideation Challenge 2024, organized by INTI International College Penang (IICP), aimed to enhance the relationship between education, innovation, and industry collaboration. The competition spanned two months, from September 24 to November 21, during which twenty teams of students addressed real-world challenges through technological innovations. The event culminated in a Final Tech Ideation Pitching and Exhibition, assessed by a panel of industry experts and academics.
Top Prize Winner
The top prize was awarded to SolarEd, a project that proposed a solar-powered, transportable digital classroom designed to improve educational access in remote regions. Evaluators acknowledged the project’s innovative approach and social impact. Other notable projects included SENIV’s self-charging electronics that leverage kinetic energy, along with solutions from teams representing Super Clean, Thomas-Tech, and Meow-Meow.

Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang, noted that the Tech Ideation Challenge serves as an essential platform for fostering future problem solvers and innovators. She emphasized the institution’s dedication to supporting practical solutions that have a meaningful impact.
First Runner-Up and Team Insights
SENIV, which secured first runner-up status, focused on developing sustainable electronic products, including wireless devices. Team members Tharmeshh A/L Elangkovan and Quah Kah Aik expressed appreciation for the feedback and mentorship received throughout the competition, highlighting how the experience motivated them to advance their innovation efforts with an emphasis on sustainability.
Industry Collaboration
Key industry partners, such as Digital Penang, Exabytes Malaysia, The Asia Foundation, and Strivers’ HUB, played a crucial role in the challenge’s success by providing sponsorships, training sessions, and workshops. These collaborations aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, equipping students with essential skills and insights for their future careers.
Preparation for the Future
Project Leader Hazwan Halim, a lecturer at INTI’s School of Engineering, commented on the significance of merging creativity with practical application, stating that the challenge prepares students to navigate and contribute effectively in an evolving global environment.
