Executive Director of WUN Visits University of Tsukuba to Enhance Global Research Collaboration

On November 13, Professor Peter Lennie, the Executive Director of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), visited the University of Tsukuba for discussions with university officials, including President NAGATA Kyosuke and Vice Presidents IKEDA Jun and SHIGETA Yasuteru.

Joining Worldwide Universities Network

The University of Tsukuba joined WUN in June 2024, becoming part of an international collaboration that includes 23 member institutions focused on enhancing collaborative research efforts. During this visit, participants discussed potential future partnerships to strengthen these research collaborations.

Professor Lennie’s Itinerary

Professor Lennie’s itinerary included a tour of the Plasma Research Center, accompanied by Director SAKAMOTO Mizuki, as well as a visit to CYBERDYNE Corporation to view their latest research facilities.

Keynote Lecture on International Research

Following the tour, Professor Lennie delivered a keynote lecture highlighting successful case studies of international joint research within WUN. Researchers from the University of Tsukuba, who had previously secured funding for collaborative projects among WUN members, provided insights into the formation and development of international research teams.

Work Session on Collaboration Challenges

This was succeeded by a work session aimed at addressing challenges and identifying solutions for international collaborative research. Approximately 60 participants from the University of Tsukuba engaged in the session, with around half attending online and half in person, gaining valuable information on effective strategies for international collaboration. Additionally, Professor Lennie visited the supercomputer facilities at the Center for Computational Sciences.

Future Research Exchanges

The University of Tsukuba looks forward to ongoing research exchanges and collaborations with WUN member universities.
