MMU and JPM Formalise Partnership with Launch of Community Legal Aid Clinic

Multimedia University (MMU) and the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) have formalised a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening legal education and expanding community access to legal services. The signing ceremony took place on 8 May 2026 at MMU’s Melaka campus.

The agreement was signed by MMU President Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud and Datuk Zamri Misman, Director General of the Legal Affairs Division, in the presence of YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

The event also marked the official launch of the MMU Legal Aid Clinic, known as the MULA Clinic. The initiative is designed to provide free legal assistance to underserved communities, particularly lower-income groups, while promoting greater public awareness of legal rights and responsibilities.

In addition to supporting the community, the clinic offers MMU law students valuable hands-on experience through direct involvement in legal aid and community service activities. Students will have opportunities to strengthen practical legal skills, communication abilities, analytical thinking, and problem-solving competencies.

Speaking at the event, Dato’ Sri Azalina highlighted the importance of combining academic learning with practical exposure to nurture socially responsible legal professionals. Meanwhile, Prof. Mazliham described the MULA Clinic as an important bridge between the university and society, reinforcing MMU’s commitment to academic excellence, employability, and meaningful community engagement.
