Tata Institute of Social Sciences to Launch Global Research Organisation in Social Sciences

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has announced the upcoming launch of a Global Social Science Research Body aimed at strengthening international collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and knowledge partnerships across the Global South in the field of social sciences. The initiative will be formally unveiled as part of the institute’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
Alongside this milestone, TISS will also introduce three new international dual degree programmes in collaboration with the University of Leeds, University College London, and the University of Canterbury. These programmes are designed to expand the institute’s global academic portfolio and enhance student mobility and research cooperation.
TISS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari stated that the institute aims to position itself as a leading global hub for social science research by fostering cross-border academic partnerships, interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and policy-oriented engagement among scholars and institutions worldwide.
The announcements will take place during the Global Colloquium on “Building Bridges in Social Sciences,” scheduled from May 11 to 13 at the TISS Deonar campus. The event will bring together academics, policymakers, diplomats, and civil society representatives from across the world, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attending the inaugural session.
Key discussion themes include governance and public policy, climate resilience, social transformation, public health systems, migration, urbanisation, and the impact of technology on society.
