United Nations University and Tsinghua University Establish Beijing Hub for Ethical and Responsible AI Development
One of the first UNU Hubs in Mainland China, this initiative aims to advance global frameworks for responsible, inclusive AI development.

The United Nations University (UNU), through its Macau institute, has partnered with Tsinghua University to launch the UNU Hub on Promoting Ethical and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Development in Beijing. Hosted by Tsinghua’s Institute for AI International Governance, the Hub is among the first of its kind in Mainland China and reflects UNU’s mission to bridge research, policy, and practice.
The agreement was signed by UNU Rector Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala and Tsinghua representative Prof. Bin Yang, highlighting a shared commitment to aligning AI innovation with human values. The Hub will focus on advancing ethical AI governance, supporting the Global South, and developing inclusive frameworks aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Structured around research, education, and outreach, the initiative will promote interdisciplinary collaboration, talent development, and global dialogue. Coordinated from Macau, it will strengthen international cooperation and position the region as a key hub for responsible AI innovation.
