South Asian University (SAU) has commenced its online application process for the 2026-27 academic session. The university is accepting applications for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs, with a total of 1,610 seats available across various disciplines.

Application Timeline and Admissions

The application period will remain open until April 10, with entrance examinations scheduled for April 25 and 26. SAU has plans to admit 780 students into both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, alongside 50 seats allocated for PhD scholarships, as stated by Prof. K K Aggarwal, the president of SAU.

New Academic Programs Introduced

Founded by member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), SAU has introduced several new academic programs this year. At the undergraduate level, notable additions include a BA LLB (Hons) and a BBA LLB (Hons), as well as a BA (Hons) in Media Arts and Design. For postgraduate studies, the university has introduced an MA in Journalism and Digital Media and an MS in Business Analytics. Additionally, new PhD programs in Management, Climate Change, English, and Chemistry are now available.

Changes in Degree Offerings

In response to changes in India’s higher education framework, SAU has launched a one-year master’s program specifically designed for students graduating from a four-year undergraduate curriculum. Students with a three-year undergraduate degree will continue to pursue the traditional two-year master’s degree. Furthermore, innovation is emphasized with the introduction of a quantum computing specialization within the B.Tech (CSE) program.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions will be determined through the university’s entrance examination, as well as recognized national-level tests. For Indian candidates, scores from examinations such as the CUET, JEE Main, CLAT, CAT, NET-JRF, and NEET will be considered for the respective programs. Additionally, Class XII board results from students in other SAARC nations will be taken into account during the admissions process.

Enhancing Student Employability

Prof. Pankaj Jain, the academic vice-president, highlighted the establishment of a Centre for Entrepreneurship, Training, and Placements aimed at enhancing industry collaboration and improving student employability.
