Silliman University Provides Psychological Support to Typhoon Tino Survivors in Cebu

Silliman University recently collaborated with the University of Cebu – Banilad Campus to organize a two-day psychosocial support initiative for survivors affected by Typhoon Tino. This event was held on December 3-4, 2025, at the Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish in Mohon, Talisay City, Cebu.

Program Overview

The program, which received support from parish priest Fr. Roy Aspera, served 285 individuals from Barangays Biasong, Mohon, and Pooc, focusing primarily on evacuees and families returning to temporary housing.

Psychosocial Processing Team

The initiative involved a 29-member Psychosocial Processing (PSP) Team, composed of faculty, counselors, staff, students, and alumni from different university departments. Dr. Edna Gladys Calingacion led the team, with Dr. Theresa A. Guino-o acting as co-team leader. The team implemented various age-appropriate and sector-specific psychosocial interventions designed to address trauma and enhance resilience among participants.

This effort is part of Silliman University’s Continuing Calamity Response Program, which combines relief efforts, psychosocial intervention, and rehabilitation support. The program has been facilitated through partnerships with various organizations and donors that provided essential supplies, including school kits and dignity packs for the families affected by the disaster.
