HKU Cultural Carnival Showcases Diversity Among International Students

On October 9, 2025, a group of international students at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) organized a Cultural Carnival on campus, showcasing the university’s diverse cultural landscape. The event included various performances and booth activities aimed at promoting integration among students from different backgrounds.

Notable attendees included Professor Bennett Yim, the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Student Exchange, and Mr. Laurence Tang, the Director of Campus Life at the Centre of Development and Resources for Students. Representatives from several consulates-general in Hong Kong were also present at the event.
International Recognition of HKU
HKU is acknowledged as one of the world’s most international universities, hosting students from 97 different countries and regions. The university’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a diverse environment have attracted an increasing number of international applicants.
Significant Increase in Applications
For the 2025/26 academic year, HKU received over 25,000 applications from non-local undergraduates, indicating a nearly 25% increase compared to the previous year. The university admitted over 1,600 non-local students, which is considered the largest intake of international students in Hong Kong.
