Khon Kaen University Launches GEO-HOO AI Chatbot to Enhance Geopark Recognition from UNESCO
Khon Kaen University has introduced an AI chatbot named “GEO-HOO” to support the Khon Kaen Geopark’s initiative for UNESCO Global Geopark recognition. The announcement was made by the Faculty of Technology, with the launch event occurring on September 18-19, 2025. The initiative was spearheaded by Associate Professor Dr. Wimontip Singthuan and involved collaboration with graduate students from the Geological Technology program.
Purpose of GEO-HOO
The project, developed in partnership with the Geopark Association, is intended to enhance public engagement with geological data and promote digital learning. GEO-HOO functions through the LINE application, which facilitates easy access to geological knowledge for youth and community tour guides. The chatbot’s database is updated regularly, allowing it to respond to inquiries about significant geological sites.
Training and Community Engagement
Training sessions were conducted for community organization representatives and local school participants, emphasizing the initiative’s collaborative approach to geological education and tourism.
UNESCO Global Geopark Initiative
This project is part of a broader strategy aimed at achieving UNESCO Global Geopark status for Khon Kaen Geopark, with a focus on community-based geotourism and educational outreach. It aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 4: Quality Education – Enhancing educational opportunities via digital platforms.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Supporting local tour guides and encouraging entrepreneurship.
