HKU Partners with Beijing to Launch “AI Technologies for Next-Gen Information Engineering” Report Live

The Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), in partnership with the China Information and Electronics Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Center, has released a report titled “AI Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology.” This report was unveiled on July 31, during simultaneous events in Beijing and Hong Kong.

A press conference was conducted at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), providing a live broadcast in alignment with the Beijing event. Key attendees included Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU, along with over 100 academics and students.

The event was presided over by Academician Aiguo Fei, Director of the Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the CAE. Xiaohong Li, President of CAE, addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of aligning artificial intelligence development with national strategic needs. Xiaohong Li indicated that the report aims to facilitate the integration of artificial intelligence with traditional industries, promoting both incremental innovation and significant advancements in emerging sectors. Furthermore, CAE seeks to consolidate expert insights to offer constructive recommendations that support informed decision-making across various fields.
Key Findings of the Report
The report encompasses a range of findings, including a “List of Emerging Industry and Future Industry Technologies Related to AI,” a “List of Industry Upgrade and Cross-Disciplinary Technologies Related to AI,” and a “List of Predicted AI Hot Technologies.” It reflects the contributions of over 300 experts from 13 subfields and integrates feedback derived from previously published blue books.

Professor Max Shen noted the importance of collaboration between CAE and HKU, emphasizing its role in advancing discussions surrounding artificial intelligence.
