Xi’an Jiaotong University Strengthens Academic Collaborations with Switzerland and France

A delegation from Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), led by President Zhang Liqun, visited Switzerland and France from May 26 to 28 to promote academic collaborations. This visit included meetings with several prominent institutions, such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Samuel C.C. Ting AMS Laboratory, the University of Strasbourg, SKEMA Business School, and the French Academy of Technologies.
Visit to CERN
At CERN on May 26, Professor Joachim Mnich, the director of Research and Computing, discussed CERN’s role as the largest particle physics research center globally and expressed a desire to enhance academic exchanges with XJTU. Mnich noted CERN’s dedication to advancing pioneering research and fostering global scientific partnerships.
Partnership with the University of Strasbourg
On May 27, President Zhang met with Rémi Barillon, the vice-president of the University of Strasbourg, to review existing partnerships and explore opportunities for expanding faculty-student exchanges and collaborative academic efforts. Zhang also participated in the E-MRS Global Dialogue Forum, where he spoke on topics related to energy efficiency and carbon-reduction technologies.
Honorary Professor Award
During the visit, Zhang awarded the title of Honorary Professor of XJTU to Nobel Prize laureate Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, inviting him to support the university’s “Zhufeng Plan” talent initiative.
Engagement with SKEMA Business School
On May 28, the delegation engaged with SKEMA Business School, where President Alice Guilhon emphasized discussions about establishing joint research centers and developing competitive management talent on a global scale.
Collaboration with the French Academy of Technologies
Additionally, the delegation held discussions with representatives from the French Academy of Technologies. President Zhang shared insights into XJTU’s achievements in integrating industry and academia and underscored the role of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as a national think tank. Both parties agreed on the importance of leveraging their respective strengths to advance scientific and technological development between China and France.
