Xi’an Jiaotong University Hosts Strategic Ministerial Seminar on China-Africa Cooperation

Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has launched the China-Africa strategic ministerial seminar during the “China Day” event at the 7th Côte d’Ivoire International Agriculture Expo, which began on May 24, 2025. The seminar is co-organized with the Meilan Group, a Chinese company known for its substantial investments in Côte d’Ivoire. This initiative utilizes the industry-education resources of Xi’an’s iHarbor to tackle pressing industrial challenges in Africa, such as energy deficits and agricultural inefficiencies.
Seminar Objectives
The seminar is intended to establish a high-level platform that encourages knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, technology transfer, and strategic collaboration between China and Africa.
Collaboration Meetings
On May 23, 2025, XJTU President Zhang Liqun visited Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire, where discussions were held regarding the expansion of collaborative efforts within the University Alliance of the Silk Road. In parallel, Zhang met with Georges Lhommet, vice-president of the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny, and they reached an agreement to enhance high-level talent development and educational collaboration.
Establishment of Research Institute
Zhang also visited the agriculture expo and worked with the Meilan Group to finalize arrangements for the seminar, culminating in an agreement to establish the China-African Advanced Research Institute. This initiative aims to integrate educational, scientific, and industrial resources to strengthen industry-education collaboration and prepare professionals dedicated to China-Africa cooperation.
