Hungarian Embassy Visits UNAIR to Discuss Academic Collaboration Opportunities

The Hungarian Embassy visited Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on June 4, 2025, to explore potential academic collaborations with the Indonesian university. The meeting occurred at the Rectorate Room of the UNAIR Management Office at the MERR-C Campus.

UNAIR officials present at the meeting included Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, DEA, and Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization, and Information, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Miftahussurur, MH, Sp.PD-KGEH, Ph.D. The Hungarian delegation comprised H.E. Lilla Karsay, the Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia, and Cultural and Education Attaché Patricia Nora Pankovics.
Discussion Highlights
During the discussions, Prof. Lukiswanto noted that UNAIR has established academic partnerships with 24 of the 27 European Union member states. He mentioned the International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program, which facilitated the study of approximately 128 Indonesian students in Europe, although he also indicated that this program faced discontinuation due to recent changes in Indonesian government policy.
Digital Transformation in Education
Prof. Miftahussurur highlighted UNAIR’s dedication to enhancing educational quality through digital transformation. He discussed the university’s initiative to adopt e-learning platforms in response to the changing educational landscape during the COVID-19 pandemic, characterizing it as a significant advancement toward modernizing education.
International Mobility Programs
Dr. Ahmad Safril Mubah, Coordinator of International Corners at Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), presented the AMERTA program (Academic Mobility Exchange for Undergraduate and Master at Airlangga). This initiative allows international students to study at UNAIR for a semester, providing insights into Indonesian social and cultural studies, economics, natural sciences, and health sciences.
Future Collaborations
Ambassador Karsay expressed Hungary’s intention to strengthen educational partnerships with UNAIR, suggesting offerings such as double-degree and triple-degree programs, along with scholarships for international students. She also mentioned existing collaborations with Indonesian institutions, particularly in research and development, including partnerships in nuclear science and a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) focusing on nuclear cooperation.
