FAIE Seminar: Grid Integration of Renewable Energy Insights at Multimedia University

The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE) at Multimedia University conducted a seminar on April 28, 2025, featuring Prof. Dr. Mithulan Nadarajah from the University of Queensland. Prof. Nadarajah, who acts as the External Examiner for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical program, presented on the topic “Grid Integration of Renewable Energy: Planning and Operational Planning Aspects.” The event attracted participation from students, faculty, and staff members.
Insights on Renewable Energy Integration
During the seminar, Prof. Nadarajah shared insights from his research on the integration of renewable energy into modern power grids, highlighting the significant role of solar photovoltaic systems in relation to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7. He outlined strategies for planning and operating renewable energy parks, also noting the potential of green hydrogen in achieving net-zero emissions and its capacity to support the grid.
Technological Advancements in Energy Systems
In addition, he covered the evaluation of oscillations in multi-inverter power systems through Virtual Synchronous Generator control, a topic of increasing relevance as the penetration of renewable energy continues to grow globally.
Industry Research and Engagement
Attendees of the seminar were provided with information on current industry-funded research projects, the role of hybrid energy storage systems, and advancements in electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The interactive format of the session encouraged audience engagement, with Prof. Nadarajah addressing questions and offering real-world examples.
Future Challenges and Opportunities
The event concluded with a discussion focused on the future challenges and opportunities in the integration of renewable energy.
