University of Canterbury Delegation Visits HUST School of Humanities

A delegation from the University of Canterbury (UC) visited the School of Humanities at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on March 24. The delegation included notable members such as Kevin Watson, Chairperson of the Confucius Institute and Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Song Zhifang, Dean of the Confucius Institute; Antonio Viselli, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Global, Cultural, and Language Studies; and Yang Wenting, Coordinator of the Confucius Institute Program at UC.

Overview of the Visit

During the visit, Dean Huang Renxuan provided an overview of the School of Humanities, highlighting its development history, disciplinary construction, and current status in international collaborations. Kevin Watson presented the unique aspects of UC’s Faculty of Arts, emphasizing its advanced disciplines, educational model, and support systems aimed at student development.

Topics of Discussion

Discussions included topics such as the establishment of a degree in digital humanities, recognition of credits for short-term programs, development of joint training programs, visiting scholar initiatives, and cultural summer camps. Participants examined methods to enhance cooperation and communication in education, scientific research, and talent cultivation. There was also an objective to identify additional areas for collaboration, resulting in a consensus to further deepen the partnership.

Involvement of Additional Leaders

Leaders from HUST’s School of Humanities, the School of International Education, and the Confucius Institute Office were also involved in the discussions.
