Strengthening Industry Partnerships for the Future of Engineering at University of Southampton Malaysia

The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is working to enhance its partnerships with industry to bolster student development and career readiness. On February 27, 2025, representatives from Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN) visited the university to discuss support for scholars and collaboration within the industry.
Commitment to Developing Future Engineers
Discussions during the meeting highlighted UoSM’s commitment to developing future engineers through quality education and industry engagement. Currently, two YTN-sponsored scholars are enrolled in the university’s Master of Engineering program in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The conversations focused on enhancing support for these scholars and exploring further avenues for aspiring students to benefit from YTN’s initiatives.
Exploring Internship Opportunities
A key topic of discussion was the potential increase in internship placements at YTN, which would provide students with practical experience in the energy sector. Such opportunities are vital in bridging the gap between academic theories and real-world applications, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge for the industry.
Campus Tour by YTN Representatives
Additionally, YTN representatives toured UoSM’s campus, reviewing advanced laboratories, engineering facilities, and various learning environments aimed at providing a comprehensive educational experience.
Strengthening the Partnership
This visit is considered an important milestone in strengthening the collaboration between UoSM and YTN. The partnership aims to create significant opportunities for students to prepare them for the evolving challenges in the engineering sector. UoSM is committed to advancing this partnership to produce skilled, industry-ready engineers.
