Strengthening Research Collaboration: UNAIR and Chaoyang University of Technology Launch Taiwan Center

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has inaugurated the Taiwan Center in collaboration with Chaoyang University of Technology from Taiwan. The ceremony took place on April 21, 2025, at the ASEEC Tower on UNAIR’s Dharmawangsa – B Campus, with attendance from key figures including UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih and Chaoyang University President Prof. Tao-Ming Cheng.
Significance of the Taiwan Center
The establishment of the Taiwan Center represents a significant step in UNAIR’s strategic efforts to strengthen academic and cultural relationships with Taiwan, with a focus on higher education initiatives. This move reflects UNAIR’s intention to enhance its presence within the global academic landscape.
Objectives of the Center
The center aims to reinforce academic partnerships between Taiwan and Indonesia, particularly through collaborative efforts led by UNAIR. Currently, UNAIR has established relationships with approximately 25 Taiwanese institutions. The center is expected to facilitate not only academic collaboration but also cultural exchange.
Opportunities for Students and Faculty
Plans for the Taiwan Center include expanding opportunities for UNAIR students and faculty to engage in student exchange programs and joint research efforts. Prof. Nasih has identified potential collaboration areas such as technology research and information technology, facilitated through the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM).
Commitment to Partnership
Prof. Tao-Ming Cheng expressed a commitment from Chaoyang University to support initiatives that enhance the partnership, such as scholarships and student exchanges. He highlighted the strengths of Taiwan’s educational system, which provides substantial support to international students through close industry partnerships.
Event Attendance
The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including representatives from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Surabaya, as well as officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
Future Prospects
This collaboration signifies the beginning of a partnership aimed at producing meaningful outcomes in education and research.
