IPB University Rector and Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Discuss Cooperation with Micronesia

On March 29, 2025, Professor Arif Satria, the Rector of IPB University, conducted a meeting with Heri Akhmadi, the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia. The meeting, held at the Rector’s residence, focused on various strategic agendas aimed at enhancing IPB University’s role in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan, with particular emphasis on agriculture, food security, and carbon trading initiatives.

Accompanying Officials

Professor Yusli Wardiatno, the Vice Dean of the Graduate School for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni, accompanied Professor Satria during the discussions. Professor Wardiatno previously served as the Education and Culture Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo from August 2020 to January 2024.

Research and Innovation Focus

During the meeting, Professor Satria highlighted IPB University’s research and innovation capabilities relevant to addressing contemporary challenges in food and environmental sustainability. He expressed the institution’s readiness to engage in proactive cooperation with Japan in areas such as sustainable agriculture and carbon trading initiatives, as well as a commitment to supporting Indonesia’s national food security program.

Potential for Economic Diplomacy

Ambassador Akhmadi acknowledged the potential of IPB University as a key institution capable of enhancing Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in Japan. He indicated that robust multi-stakeholder partnerships are essential for collaboration in the agriculture and food sectors, as well as for addressing global challenges such as energy transitions and carbon management. He noted that IPB University has the capacity to facilitate these partnerships.

Fostering Scientific Dialogue

This meeting marks the beginning of a more focused dialogue between IPB University and Indonesian diplomatic representatives, aimed at promoting scientific and research contributions that could elevate Indonesia’s global standing in key strategic sectors of mutual interest.
