Xi’an Jiaotong University Achieves 13 Gold Awards at International Innovation Competition

Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) recently achieved significant recognition at the national finals of the 2024 China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, held in Shanghai from October 12 to 15. The university secured a total of 13 gold awards, resulting in a gold award rate of one in 10,000, positioning XJTU among the leading universities in China. This latest accomplishment elevates the total number of gold awards earned by the university throughout the competition’s ten-year history to 48, which is the highest among Chinese institutions.

Competition Overview

The competition was co-organized by China’s Ministry of Education, alongside various government entities and the Shanghai Municipal Government, with administrative support from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Minhang District Government. Since its establishment in April 2024, the competition has seen considerable engagement, with 5.14 million project submissions from 20.84 million students representing 5,406 universities across 153 countries and regions. Among these submissions, 39,380 entries were from international students, affiliated with 1,993 institutions, including notable universities such as Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, MIT, and Cambridge.

Global Impact and Collaboration

The competition is designed as a global platform for fostering innovation among youth, promoting international collaboration, cultural exchange, and joint initiatives focused on global challenges like peace and development. A total of 1,410 projects successfully reached the finals.

XJTU’s Achievements

XJTU presented nine projects in the national finals across the main category, three in the youth category, and four in the industry category, achieving notable results: seven gold awards in the main category, two in the youth category, and four in the industry category, in addition to three silver and one bronze awards. Furthermore, all four international projects submitted by XJTU received gold awards.

Strategic Initiatives for Success

To enhance its performance in the competition, XJTU established a specialized working group that facilitated collaboration across multiple departments, ultimately resulting in the submission of over 750 innovation and entrepreneurship projects from more than 5,000 participants, including both current students and alumni.
