Empowering Minds: Orientation Focuses on Technology and the Future of Knowledge

Rethinking Knowledge in a Digital Age: TUT Orientation Challenges Postgraduates to Confront Technology, Language and Inclusion
The 2026 Master’s and Doctoral Orientation Programme at Tshwane University of Technology opened with a compelling call to action by Prof Mashupye Maserumule, who urged students to critically examine the role of technology in shaping knowledge systems. Framed around the question of how language interacts with digital innovation, the programme highlighted the urgent need for inclusivity in emerging technologies. Through thought-provoking discussions led by academic leaders, including Prof Rasigan Maharajh, the event explored global challenges, ethical research, and the decolonisation of knowledge. Students were encouraged to pursue research that is socially responsive, analytically rigorous, and globally relevant. With contributions from faculty, research offices, and support services, the orientation provided both practical guidance and intellectual inspiration. It ultimately positioned postgraduate students as future leaders responsible for shaping equitable and inclusive technological and academic landscapes.
