UGM Graduates 205 Veterinarians to Enhance Indonesia’s Animal Health and Food Security

On January 21, 2026, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKH UGM) conducted a ceremony to officially graduate 205 new veterinarians, comprising 49 male and 156 female students. This event took place at Grha Sabha Pramana and contributes to the veterinary workforce in Indonesia, raising the total number of veterinarians trained by FKH UGM to 6,611, who are now actively serving in various communities both domestically and internationally.
Significance of the Inauguration
Dr. Agung Suganda, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the significance of this inauguration as a crucial step for the graduates as they begin their careers. He noted that they will face various challenges that will assess their scientific expertise and professional ethics in diverse settings.
Employment Opportunities for Veterinarians
Additionally, Dr. Suganda indicated that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program creates new employment opportunities for veterinarians, affirming that the program aids in stabilizing food prices and showcases the vital role veterinarians play within the animal and plant food processing sectors.
Encouragement from Professional Associations
Dr. Andi Wijanarko, Secretary General of the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PB PDHI), acknowledged the accomplishments of the new veterinarians and encouraged them to fulfill their professional duties with integrity and ethical standards. He advised them to pursue continuous learning and foster strong professional relationships while maintaining the reputation of their institution.
Academic Achievements
The ceremony also noted that this graduating cohort had an average study duration of 5 years, 8 months, and 11 days, with the top graduate, Rana Ayuningyas Adhi Puspita, achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.96.

The event underscored not only the achievements of the graduates but also the responsibilities associated with the veterinary profession in promoting animal health and food security in Indonesia.
