Prof. Muhammad Madyan Elected as Rector of Universitas Airlangga for 2025-2030 Term

Prof. Muhammad Madyan has been elected as the Rector of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) for the term from 2025 to 2030. The selection process involved candidate screenings, discussions within the university community, and concluded with a voting session by the UNAIR Board of Trustees (MWA) on May 5, 2025.
Voting Process and Results
According to the chairman of the Board, Prof. (HCUA) Dr. H. Sunarto, SH, MH, three candidates were selected for the final voting stage after being vetted by the Academic Senate. Out of the 30 board members, 27 participated in the voting, with three members absent.
Prof. Madyan received the highest number of votes, totaling 13, while Prof. Dr. Koko Srimulyo earned 9 votes and Prof. Dr. Dwi Setyawan received 4 votes. One vote was marked as an abstention.
Inauguration Details
The inauguration of Prof. Madyan is scheduled for June 17, 2025. He will succeed Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, MT, Ak, CA, who has served two consecutive terms as rector.
Vision for the Future
Prof. Sunarto expressed a vision for UNAIR to rank among the top 200 universities globally in the QS World University Rankings. He emphasized that achieving this goal will require collaborative efforts and support from all stakeholders involved.
Comments from the Outgoing Rector
The outgoing rector, Prof. Nasih, commented on the democratic nature of the election process, highlighting the importance of continuity in leadership. He acknowledged the dedication exhibited by all three candidates, who committed to maintaining ethical and legal standards while promoting collaboration.
Prof. Nasih noted, “Rankings are merely indicators. The true value lies in the quality and impact of our research, teaching, and community services. By prioritizing these areas, the rankings will follow naturally.”
He expressed confidence in Prof. Madyan’s ability to enhance UNAIR’s global standing while building on the foundation established over the past decade.
