Two IPB University Professors Honored with the Japanese Ambassador’s Award for Outstanding Contributions

On February 28, 2025, the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi, presented the Overseas Chief Representative Award for the 6th Reiwa Year to two professors from IPB University, Tineke Mandang and Hanny Wijaya. This award recognizes their significant efforts in fostering amicable relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Indonesia.
Acknowledgment of Contributions
Both professors have benefited from scholarships provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) and have taken on essential roles in the selection of scholarship recipients in various fields, particularly in science and agriculture, since 1990. In addition, Prof. Tineke Mandang serves as the Vice President of the Alumni Association of Japan (PERSADA), contributing to the promotion of the association and participating as a resource person in events such as the Japan Education Fair organized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
Prof. Mandang’s Commitment
Upon receiving the award, Prof. Tineke Mandang expressed her pride in the recognition and emphasized her commitment to supporting the Japanese government scholarship program to enhance opportunities for Indonesian students in Japan. She highlighted the importance of maintaining and improving cooperative relations between Japan and Indonesia, especially within the domains of education and agriculture.
Collaborative Efforts in Education
The professors have also made notable contributions to managing IPB University’s partnerships with Japan, which include collaboration projects with organizations such as JICA Japan for the development of educational facilities and international training programs.
Prof. Wijaya’s Role in Strengthening Ties
Prof. Hanny Wijaya has also played a pivotal role in advancing educational collaborations between Japan and Indonesia, reinforcing connections between the Japanese Embassy and Indonesian authorities. As the Chair of the Hokkaido University Alumni Association in Indonesia, she has facilitated various exchanges, including hosting the Rector of Hokkaido University.

Both professors have expressed their appreciation for the opportunities afforded to them through Japanese scholarships and reiterated their dedication to continuing collaborative efforts that benefit Indonesia and enhance IPB University’s academic community.
