UNAIR Alumnus Secures PhD Scholarship in Taiwan for Breast Cancer Molecular Research
Arya Satya Rajanagara, an alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), has been awarded a PhD scholarship at China Medical University (CMU) in Taiwan through the Ministry of Education Taiwan Scholarship program. This fully funded scholarship is designed for international students pursuing higher education.
Research Focus
At CMU, Rajanagara’s research focuses on molecular metabolism related to breast cancer. His work seeks to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that drive breast cancer metabolism, with the aim of improving therapeutic interventions for this disease, which is a significant cause of mortality globally.
Advanced Methodologies
The research employs advanced methodologies to evaluate cancer metabolism, specifically targeting breast cancer in order to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of treatment options.
Public Health Challenge
Breast cancer poses a considerable public health challenge and is among the leading causes of death in Indonesia. Rajanagara has highlighted the pressing need for research in this area, noting that cancer significantly contributes to mortality rates, thereby underscoring the importance of such scholarly endeavors.
Collaborative Initiatives
His investigation includes collaboration with both international and local experts. This includes working with Professor Ming Tan, a well-regarded academic from the United States, as well as colleagues from UNAIR’s Faculty of Medicine who assist with research and publication initiatives.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Rajanagara intends to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in Taiwan to his future endeavors in Indonesia. He plans to engage in postdoctoral research before assuming a full-time teaching position, demonstrating a commitment to furthering medical research in oncology, which could lead to significant advancements in cancer treatment both in Indonesia and internationally.
