The event featured four award categories.
Award Recipients
The recipients were Nur Sarah Bt Azhar, a final-year Biomedical Science student; Parvinpal Kaur, an alumna of Biomedical Science who also holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine; and Daren Kumar A/L Joseph, a Senior Regional Programme Advisor at the Marketing and Enrolment Office.
Conference Overview
The conference was organized by the Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (MACB) and the Malaysian Biomedical Science Association (MyBiomed). The event provided a platform for international speakers, clinical scientists, and academics to present their research under the theme “Towards Holistic, Integration, and Sustainability in the Medical Laboratory.”
Presentations by Awardees
Nur Sarah Bt Azhar presented research titled “Photoprotective Bioactivity of Pseudokirchneriella Subcapitata Extracts on Ultraviolet Light-Irradiated Human Keratinocytes,” which was supervised by A/Prof Lim Chooi Ling and other faculty members. The study examined the significant effects of microalgae extracts on keratinocyte viability and their potential role in wound healing.
Parvinpal Kaur’s oral presentation addressed “Epigenetic Changes Modulated by Inhibitor of Kappa B Kinase Alpha (IKKα) in a Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) Cell Line,” contributing valuable insights into the complex diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Daren Kumar A/L Joseph discussed findings related to “Behavioral Changes Following Cosmos Caudatus Aqueous Extract Supplementation on AlCl₃-Induced Rats,” focusing on the neuroprotective properties of the plant extract.
Further Insights
Additionally, A/Prof Kok Yih Yih, Associate Dean at the School of Health Sciences, presented on the public health implications of plastic pollution.
