Executive Vice-President Ueki Attends Third Japan-India Universities Forum
Tohoku University’s Executive Vice President, Ueki, participated in the Third Japan-India Universities Forum held in New Delhi on October 19. This event, organized annually since 2023 by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), included representatives from 34 Indian academic institutions alongside 28 Japanese research institutes and businesses.
Opening Remarks and Keynote Speeches
The forum commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Kazuhiro Hashimoto and featured speeches from distinguished attendees such as Sibi George, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Japan; Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology for the Government of India; Hiroki Takaya, Deputy Director-General of the Science and Technology Policy Bureau within Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; and Takashi Ariyoshi, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Japan to India.
Focus on Collaboration and Development
The primary focus of the forum was to enhance collaboration between leading academic figures from Japan and India, with an emphasis on developing human resources capable of contributing to regional growth. During the second session, attendees participated in roundtable discussions aimed at strengthening study abroad programs, with Ueki’s group playing an active role in these discussions.
Concluding Discussions and Future Prospects
The event concluded with one-on-one meetings between representatives of the two nations’ universities. Overall, the forum facilitated productive discussions regarding potential academic collaborations between Japanese and Indian institutions, demonstrating its effectiveness as a platform for international academic exchange.
