Thammasat Wins the ‘Friendly Design Awards 2023,’ Reaffirming the Leadership in Education for the Sixth Consecutive Year
The Friendly Design for All Foundation, in collaboration with the public and private sectors, organized the “Thailand Friendly Design Expo 2023.” This event, the 7th Exhibition of Architecture, Health Innovation, and Mass Tourism, took place at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). The awards ceremony was presided over by Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Social Development and Human Security.
This year, Thammasat University has been honored with the Friendly Design Awards 2023 under “Architectural Promotion Organization—Tourism for All 2024,” recognized as an organization excelling in the promotion and creation of architecture. The commitment is to ensure equitable access and benefits for all and to develop friendliness toward the public. This marks the sixth consecutive year of such recognition.
Assoc. Prof. Gasinee Witoonchart, the Rector of Thammasat University, has also been honored with the Friendly Design Awards 2023 under “Person of the Year in Architectural Promotion 2024.” Additionally, in the field of physical well-being, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Choomket Sawangjaroen, the Vice Rector for Physical Space Administration at Thammasat University Rangsit Center, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pisanu Toochinda, the Vice Rector for Quality of Life Administration at Thammasat University Rangsit Center, have received the Friendly Design Awards 2023 under “Ambassadors of Architectural Virtue 2025.”
Assoc. Prof. Gasinee Witoonchart, the Rector of Thammasat University, revealed that the university has been actively driving initiatives to promote gender equality and create an inclusive educational environment for all groups. This commitment extends to both policy development and the advancement of innovative projects for persons with disabilities, guided by the principles of Universal Design. Thammasat University is dedicated to being a leader in the educational sector for the general public, establishing learning spaces that cater to diverse lifestyles. The goal is to enable every community to coexist equitably and sustainably, in line with the ongoing pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG10) to reduce inequality.
Due to the dedication and determination of Thammasat University, it has been honored with the Architectural Award, standing as the sole university in Thailand to receive this accolade consistently for six consecutive years. Thammasat University will continue to advance and preserve its commitment to being an educational institution that promotes equality and sustainability in society in the future.
This event emphasized innovations in health for the general public, showcasing the collaboration of organizations, governmental bodies, and private entities both nationally and internationally. There were booths exhibiting the works and distributing products crafted by persons with disabilities, aiming to promote their professions, develop their potential, create opportunities, generate employment, and contribute to the income of them and their families.
