Education institutions founded by MCA to collaborate with more Chinese universities

PETALING JAYA: Education institutions founded by MCA will begin new collaborations with more Chinese universities following a bilateral dialogue with the Chinese Education Minister last night (April 26), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said UTAR and Xidian University will jointly establish the China-Malaysia Institute of Science and Technology Innovation (CM-ISTI) while TAR UMT and Guangxi Financial Vocational College to establish the China-Malaysia Institute of Modern Craftsmanship of Digital Economy.

UTAR will also set up the Confucius Institute at its Sg Long campus in collaboration with Dezhou University.

Dr Wee added that MCA’s VTAR Institute will also begin working with China’s vocational education institutions to learn from their successes to help VTAR become a top vocational training provider in Southeast Asia in the next 10 years.

“I believe this will mark the beginning of more highly efficient collaboration between the two countries,” Dr Wee said in a statement after the dialogue between MCA leaders and the Secretary of the Communist Party of China Leading Group of the Ministry of Education and Chinese Education Minister Huai Jinpeng and his delegation in Mandarin Oriental hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Friday evening.

Dr Wee said that the dialogue gave the party an opportunity to learn from the Chinese government in bolstering Malaysia’s education services particularly in mathematics, science, and vocational training. He also shared with the Chinese Education Ministry the party’s aims to further develop its offerings in education.

“I shared that MCA has set two main objectives for future development in the education field – to improve the country’s proficiency in mathematics and science, and promote vocational training. We hope to achieve a win-win situation by collaborating with our Chinese partners in these two areas,” he said.
