Chulalongkorn University Council Chairman Delivers Keynote at Boao Forum for Asia Perth Conference

Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Chulalongkorn University Council, delivered a keynote address at the Boao Forum for Asia Perth Conference, held on 27 July 2026 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Perth, Australia. Jointly organized by the Boao Forum for Asia and Fortescue, the conference brought together regional leaders to discuss pressing economic and sustainability challenges.
In his keynote, titled Energy Transition and New Opportunities for Green Industries in the Context of the Middle East Crisis, Professor Surakiart examined how geopolitical tensions are affecting global energy security, supply chains, and economic stability. He noted that disruptions to key shipping routes and fluctuating oil prices pose significant risks to countries across Asia, including Thailand, highlighting the need for long-term resilience rather than short-term relief measures.
He emphasized that accelerating the adoption of renewable energy, solar power, and electric vehicles is essential for reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels while strengthening energy security. Professor Surakiart also encouraged greater investment in green industries, advanced manufacturing, and clean technologies to support sustainable economic growth and enhance regional competitiveness.
Concluding his address, he stressed that a successful green transition requires international cooperation, supportive policy frameworks, and stronger partnerships among governments, industry, academia, and other stakeholders to build a secure, low-carbon, and sustainable future.
