Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Participates in 26th COMSATS Coordinating Council Meeting in Indonesia

The 26th meeting of the COMSATS Coordinating Council was held in Surabaya, Indonesia, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), bringing together representatives from leading scientific and educational institutions across the Global South. A delegation from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), representing Kazakhstan within the COMSATS Centers of Excellence network, actively participated in the high-level discussions.
The COMSATS (Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South) Coordinating Council is an intergovernmental platform that promotes science, technology, and innovation to support sustainable development among member states. The meeting focused on strengthening international scientific cooperation, expanding joint research initiatives, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
KazNU was represented by Kuanysh Tastambek, Director of the Department of Science and Innovation, and Nurali Akimbekov, Director of the Center for Islamic Science and Innovation. The delegation contributed to discussions on the progress of COMSATS activities from 2024 to 2026, including the expansion of Centers of Excellence and collaborative research networks.
Key thematic areas included biotechnology, climate science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and sustainable resource management. KazNU also presented its achievements in research innovation, digitalization of science, supercomputing applications, and capacity building for young researchers.
The university further engaged in consultations on international research platforms, mobility programs, and joint grant opportunities, reinforcing its commitment to global academic collaboration and scientific advancement.
