University of Helsinki Receives 3,739 Applications for International Master’s Programmes

University of Helsinki received 3,739 applications for its international master’s programmes starting in autumn 2026, reflecting continued global interest despite a 10% decline in line with national trends. The most sought-after programmes were the Master’s in Computer Science (554 applications) and Data Science (551), followed by Global Politics and Communications (305).
In total, 1,626 applicants were admitted, representing an acceptance rate of 44%. The university’s international intake remains highly diverse, with students from 90 countries. Nearly 79% of admitted students come from outside Finland, and over 58% are from non-EU and non-EEA countries.
China, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were among the leading countries of origin. At the undergraduate level, the Bachelor’s Programme in Science attracted 500 applicants, while the newly introduced Liberal Arts and Sciences programme received 295.
These figures highlight the university’s strong global appeal and diverse academic offerings.
