Visayas State University USSC Wins National Kabataan Fair: Acknowledging Youth Leadership and Sustainability

The University Student Supreme Council (USSC) of Visayas State University (VSU) was recognized as the national winner at the National Kabataan Fair held during the 12th Philippine I Transform! Leaders’ Convention in Baguio City from November 13 to 18, 2025. This accolade emphasizes VSU’s dedication to fostering transformative and service-oriented leadership across the country.

Recognition of VSU’s Student Leaders

The recognition highlights VSU’s significant role in cultivating student leaders capable of effectively addressing urgent social and environmental issues. Members of the USSC, including Kleenie Elumene B. Yuzon, Hon. Reniel Emberso, and Hon. Kobe T. Juanillo, under the mentorship of Hon. Kyle L. Ambid, presented “Project Faith Garden.” This initiative focuses on the cultivation of fresh produce, the promotion of biodiversity, and community education while striving to reduce carbon footprints.

Impact of Youth Leadership

The accomplishment is seen as a testament to the potential of youth leadership in contributing to national progress. The National Kabataan Fair serves as a platform for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as responsible consumption, climate action, and community protection.

Insights from USSC Members

Mr. Juanillo emphasized the importance of humility in leadership, citing the respectful interactions among diverse leaders at the convention. As a result of their success, the USSC received a cash grant to assist in the implementation of their project, which is designed to benefit both the student body and neighboring communities.

Project Sustainability

Mr. Emberso noted that the project’s sustainability and accessibility were essential factors in its success, describing it as “student-friendly” and supported by collaborative efforts with various organizations to ensure long-term viability.

Aligning with VSU’s Mission

This national recognition aligns with VSU’s mission to nurture graduates and leaders who promote global relevance and social responsibility. As the USSC progresses with its initiative, the anticipated benefits are expected to extend beyond the university, demonstrating the positive impact of youth empowerment within local communities.
