Swinburne Sarawak Final Year Project Showcase: Enhancing Industry-University Collaboration

Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus held its Semester 2 Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase on December 2, 2025, which showcased the accomplishments of final-year students from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Science.
Event Overview
The event, themed “People in STEM Can Work Together to Build a Better World,” featured 134 projects presented by a total of 290 students representing various disciplines, including Civil, Mechanical, Robotics and Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic, and Chemical Engineering, as well as Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science. In addition to the project presentations, an Industry Award Ceremony facilitated networking and engagement with industry representatives.
Inauguration and Acknowledgments
The event was inaugurated by Ir Professor Su Hieng Tiong, Dean of the Faculty, who welcomed attendees and acknowledged the contributions of sponsors such as SOCOE Sdn Bhd, Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, Sunvision Engineering Sdn Bhd, ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Malaysia Chapter. Professor Su emphasized the importance of the showcase, stating that it reflected the creativity and technical abilities of students as well as the strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, which aids in preparing graduates for employment and innovation.
Plenary Session and Guest Speakers
The showcase included a plenary session featuring guest speakers, including Mr. Daniel Kho, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, who discussed career pathways for engineering students, and Mr. Abdul Najib Azhfar Aini, Marketing and Communications Manager of SOCOE Sdn Bhd, who presented alongside Swinburne alumni.
Award-Winning Projects
Several projects received accolades from industry representatives for their innovative approaches and practical applications. Among these, Samuel Haw Wei Aern’s project on a “Hardware-Software Co-Design of a RISC-V Based Embedded Vision System for Face and Motion Detection” was recognized for its advanced technical integration. Additionally, the team project “A Centralised Event Management System,” developed by Teo Jia En and his colleagues, was highlighted for its potential to improve operational efficiency.
Career Opportunities for Students
The event also featured career booths operated by industry partners, offering students direct access to professional insights and internship opportunities. The Final Year Project Showcase underscored Swinburne Sarawak’s dedication to enhancing student employability and fostering productive collaborations aligned with the institution’s Horizon 2025 vision.
