Ewha College of Nursing Hosts International Conference 2025 on Person-Centered Care and Technology

Ewha Womans University’s College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Ewha Research Institute of Nursing Science (ERINS), hosted the 2025 International Conference on October 20 at Lee Sam-bong Hall, located within the ECC Building. This conference celebrated 122 years of nursing education at Ewha and coincided with the 70th anniversary of Korea’s first four-year bachelor’s degree program in nursing.

Conference Theme and Participation

The event, themed “NURSING AT THE INTERSECTION: Person-Centered Care Meets Cutting Edge Technologies,” attracted around 180 participants, encompassing nursing educators, practitioners, researchers, and international speakers. Discussions at the conference focused on the future of nursing science in light of technological advancements.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

During the opening ceremony, Dean Younhee Kang highlighted the fundamental role of nursing and stressed the necessity of bolstering global nursing leadership. President Hyang-Sook Lee also reflected on the 122-year legacy of nursing education at Ewha, emphasizing the importance of finding a balance between technological innovation and patient-centered care.

Keynote Addresses

The conference featured keynote addresses from notable speakers, including Professor Brendan McCormack from the University of Sydney, who discussed the essential roles of creativity and empathy in nursing. Additionally, Professor Angela Leung from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University presented insights on how technology could improve quality of life in the context of the World Health Organization’s concept of “Healthy Ageing.”

Distinguished Speakers

Several distinguished speakers from prominent institutions were also in attendance, including Professor Yoko Shimpuku from Hiroshima University and Professor Meihua Piao from Harbin Medical University, among others from various universities across Asia.

Engagement Opportunities

Approximately 100 paper presentations and poster sessions provided opportunities for participants to engage with future visions for nursing science and explore avenues for international collaborative research. In the aftermath of the conference, the College of Nursing plans to enhance global research collaborations, particularly focusing on areas of precision nursing and artificial intelligence in nursing studies.
