UiTM and SEAMEO RECSAM Sign MoU to Enhance STEM Education in Southeast Asia

The Faculty of Education at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has formed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM). The agreement, aimed at improving Science and Mathematics education across Southeast Asia, was signed on October 2, 2025.
Signing Ceremony
The signing ceremony included various representatives from UiTM, notably Prof. Ts. Dr. Nor Hayati Saad, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Strategy), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shireena Basree Abdul Rahman, the Dean of the Faculty of Education. SEAMEO RECSAM was represented by Dr. Azman Jusoh, the Centre Director, with Ms. Rashihah Hj. Othman present as a witness.
Collaborative Efforts
The MoU outlines plans for collaborative efforts, including co-hosting international conferences, producing joint research publications, and designating UiTM as a Satellite Training Venue for SEAMEO RECSAM’s regional programmes. Additionally, the agreement intends to facilitate exchanges between staff and students, promoting innovation, broadening opportunities, and enhancing expertise among educators and students.
Advancing Quality Education
The partnership aims to advance Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on Quality Education, by enhancing educational capacity and pedagogical practices within the fields of Science and Mathematics in Southeast Asia. It aligns with UiTM’s strategic initiative to broaden its global academic impact through collaborative partnerships and knowledge sharing.
Future Expectations
Both institutions anticipate that this collaboration will lead to significant educational initiatives and cultivate educators equipped to address the challenges of the 21st century.
